Critical Skills Workshops
Critical Skills Workshops are intensive courses that focus on developing the three fundamental skillsets your dog needs to become a well-rounded, good mannered canine companion: Off leash skills, loose leash skills, and good manners.
Each Critical Skills Workshop includes four 1-hour group classes. The first class is an Intro Talk without your dog, where we introduce the theory and training techniques that will be used throughout the Workshop. The remaining classes include your dog and introduce various games and exercises that will give you the tools you need to develop your dog’s skills to a moderate to advanced level.
Each Workshop has a maximum of 4 dogs, ensuring you get plenty of instructor time. You will also get free access to our Saturday Drop-Ins for the duration of your Workshop, giving you the opportunity to use our training facility to practice the skills you are learning, exercise your dog, ask questions, and participate in scheduled activities.
Off Leash Fundamentals
This Workshop is designed to introduce the fundamental skill set your dog needs when off leash. We begin by establishing foundational skills: building engagement, respond to name, impulse control, disengage from distractions, Leave-It, and a Formal Recall. We then add difficulty by increasing the distance between you and your dog, decreasing your dog’s distance from distractions, and increasing the level of distractions.
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Rank your dog’s top distractions
- Understand how to motivate your dog
- Increase your dog’s focus on you and calmness when in the presence of distractions
- Improve your dog’s impulse control to various triggers
- Teach your dog to Leave-It on command
- Recall your dog away from various distractions and distances
- Increase your control when your dog is off-leash
The Off Leash Fundamentals Workshop includes four 1-hour group classes (including an Intro Talk) that take place at the same time every week at Tumblewood Canine. Maximum 4 dogs per Workshop!

Loose Leash Fundamentals
This Workshop focuses on developing your dog’s loose leash walking skills. We begin by teaching your dog fundamental focus and engagement exercises, and progress towards walking on a loose leash in a low-distraction environment. We then slowly add difficulty by increasing distractions, and coach you on how to ensure successful loose-leash walking out in the real world!
Skills Include:
- Focus and engagement games
- Getting into heel position
- Building value for being in heel position
- Leash respect
- Formal heel with different distractions
- Greeting people and dogs appropriately
The Loose Leash Fundamentals Workshop includes four 1-hour group classes (including an Intro Talk) that take place at the same time every week at Tumblewood Canine. Maximum 4 dogs per Workshop!

Household Manners
This Workshop focuses on preventing or stopping a variety of common household manner problems.
Topics Include:
- Place
- Jumping on people
- Jumping up on counters (“counter-surfing”)
- Barking
- Impulse control games (food, doors, toys…)
- “Leave-it” command
- “Drop-it” command
- No chasing brooms or vacuums

Obstacle Training
Our Obstacle Training workshop is a fun and exciting relationship-building opportunity for you and your dog.
Skills Include:
- How to lead your dog over and through different obstacles
- Improve your handling, communication, and leadership
- Improving your dog’s focus, confidence, coordination, and fitness
